On International day of biological diversity, I learned about incredible web of life that susteins and heals itself in woderous ways.

6 examples of Nature's Intelligence

Everything conected to Regenerative life on new earth, I've learned from Ecoversity academy from my favorite teachers Stephen Brooks, Penny Livingston and Sara Wu :)

🌿 Here are six (of many) extraordinary animals that practice self-medication and self-healing, showcasing nature's innate intelligence and interconnection:

1. Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees exhibit remarkable self-care by using various plants for medicinal purposes. They consume Wild Sunflower (Aspilia africana) for wound care and Bitter Leaf (Vernonia amygdalina) to soothe stomach ailments.

2. Elephants
Elephants are nature's gentle giants with a knack for self-medication. They consume African Myrrh (Commiphora africana) to improve digestion and alleviate stomach discomfort.

3. Monarch Butterflies
Monarch butterflies have an incredible method of protecting their offspring. They lay their eggs on Milkweed (Asclepias spp.), which contains antiparasitic properties. This strategy helps shield their larvae from predators and parasites, ensuring the survival of the next generation.

4. Baboons
Ethiopian baboons have discovered a natural remedy for schistosomiasis, a disease caused by flatworms. They eat the leaves of the Sedges (Cyperus spp.) plant to combat the parasites.

5. Woolly Spider Monkeys
Female woolly spider monkeys in Brazil exhibit an intriguing use of plants to manage their reproductive health. They consume Brazilian Ginseng (Hebanthe eriantha) to regulate fertility.

6. Orangutans
Orangutans have been observed using medicinal plants to treat wounds. In Indonesia, an orangutan was seen applying chewed leaves of a Akar Kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria), known locally for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, to a cheek injury.

The self-healing behavior of the natural world is a testament to the profound interconnectedness that exists among all life forms.

This reinforces our responsibility to nurture and protect the natural world and preserve the biodiversity that makes our planet vibrant and resilient.

Happy International Day of Biological Diversity, eco-fam! 🌎

I'm glad to be part of community committed to ecological education and conservation.
